Overview

gawkbot is a self-hosted bot platform that runs on your own machine with your own API keys or signed-in agent CLIs. It positions itself as an open alternative to xAI's Grok Bot. You describe a repetitive workflow in a sentence, or demo it once, and it builds a bot as a small app with its own screen, routines, tools and knowledge pages. An AI Chief of Staff coordinates the bots and collects their questions into one inbox.

It detects agent CLIs already on your machine, such as Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Ollama, and can adopt them as bots. Claude Code is the default runtime, and local models via Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint are supported. Bots connect to services through a local CLI or Composio. Reads run freely, but writes like sends, commits, purchases and deletes wait for your approval.

The main app is a Mac app with a notch panel, voice input and keyboard shortcuts. A web UI, a Windows installer and a build-from-source iPhone companion are also available. It is free. The source is under the Sustainable Use License, which allows self-hosting for internal and non-commercial use but not reselling it as a hosted product.
